Melted Red Lipstick

This floaty Zara top is one of those things I can’t stop wearing. It’s become one of those situations in which one may attempt to invent scenarios that make it totally ok to wear it five days in a row. Did I mention you can just throw it in the washing machine? So good.

This lipstick is next-level good, too – not only is Too Faced cruelty-free, it’s also made in the US and the quality is luxuriously refined. “Melted” is in the title, but it’s more of “melded” into my beauty routine.

My handbag is also a recent Zara find. The style is clearly, shall we say, “inspired” by Prada, but the fact that it’s faux leather has me ok with the resemblance. My quest to live eco-chic has me seriously considering going leather-free with purchases of new items. I know I’ll only be purchasing faux leather jackets, but handbags and shoes have me wavering, since I have noticed a stark difference in quality and comfort. Stay tuned for further developments on my philosophies here.

Stella McCartney has a gorgeous line of accessories that are entirely leather-free, and is the only major designer to do so. I have my eye on the new quilted Falabella, but that is a faux leather handbag that – rightfully so – requires a bit more penny-pinching before purchase compared to this $80 Zara find. It’s also a major frustration for me that, at 5’11”, I wear a true size 11 shoe, which is not an Italian 41, where many designers cap their lines – Stella included. If I can find some faux leather shoes that fit and have impressive quality, you can bet your gumdrop buttons I’ll be singing it from the rooftops.

Stylish, Sparkly & Sweet: Wedding Wear

Silver lace dress: Betsy & Adam via Macy’s (similar here) // Red lipstick: Maybelline 14-Hour in Continuous Cranberry // Gray nail polish: Chanel 559 Frenzy via Nordstrom // Round sunglasses: Target // Black wristlet: Coach (old, new version here) // Black wedges: Steve Madden (last season, similar here) // Men’s watch: Kenneth Cole, my gift to le hubs on our wedding day (similar here) // Floral bracelet: what I wore on our wedding day

Last weekend, two of our good friends held a gorgeous wedding celebration in Sonoma, California, and it was the most magical wedding. In addition to the mermaid swimming about the pool, the unicorn at the end of the ceremony, the bagpipes and the custom cocktails in mason jars, the love this couple celebrated at their wedding is a thing of beauty so rare and so special, it’s the stuff of legends.

The night before, le hubs and I met after work for a quick dress shopping session and landed this beauty. As soon as I saw it, I knew — despite it being in the Petites’ sale section and me being 5’11”. Luckily, I didn’t even need to alter it! Serendipitous sartorial success, I say. I wanted something a little more romantic than my go-to LBD, and this silvery, lace dress was just what I was hoping to find for the “garden cocktail” attire.

Tip: wear wedges to any wedding that will be outside. You don’t want to aerate the lawn with your heels!

My favorite part of this ensemble? I fully plan to layer this dress with a sweater and make it werk for work. Just as I repurpose my wedding jewelry on a weekly basis, I love wearing pieces chosen for special occasions in everyday life. It keeps the magic alive (and makes the cost-per-wear even better).

Layered Fall Love

Angora blend sweater: Ann Taylor // Printed dress: Gap // Bordeaux Astrid Satchel: Michael Kors // Black pointed bow flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom (similar here)

Perfume bottle necklace: H&M (similar I adore here) // Tiered gold rope necklace: Target // Gold dog tags necklace: Express // Gold and silver watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs // Round sunglasses: Target // Red nail polish: Chanel 475 Dragon // Red lipstick: Maybelline Continuous Cranberry

Fall is here and the change of the season has le hubs and me ready for change ourselves. I’m layering my favorite pieces (this new Gap dress and Ann Taylor sweater are currently topping my list, and I got them both on sale!), le hubs finally tried a slim cut for his jeans (and they look amazing!) and our puppies’ sweaters will soon make an appearance for evening walks — but it goes deeper than simply the sartorial sense.

In short, the Longs are calling on their ambitions and making big things happen. Every day is another opportunity for wisdom to grow, doubts to diminish and love to flourish, and we’re layering it all on this fall.

P.S. And sometimes, when you’ve been a #getitgirl and you’ve been working really hard, you get to treat yourself to a gorgeous, bordeaux handbag from Michael Kors. Luckily, my day to do so just happened and I am enamored with the result! Can I get a co-sign??
