Pastel Pink

Sarah's Ambitions - Pale Pink - shorts chic outfit Sarah's Ambitions - Pale Pink - shorts chic outfit Sarah's Ambitions - Pale Pink - shorts chic outfit

Pink tank: Zara // White blazer: H&M // Black faux leather shorts: Zara (I seriously own two identical pairs; total must-have staple piece!) // Handbag: Michael Kors Hamilton // Bow flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom // Ring necklace: H&M // Pyramid ring: Forever21 // Mirrored rose sunglasses: H&M // Pink lipgloss: “Smooth Talker” c/o BareMinerals

I wore this outfit for a day of working at a local café, where I got some real sunshine for the first time in a long time. It was deliciously warm and entirely addictive. The weather in San Francisco (and the neighboring city where I live, one step farther down the coast) is often a bit too chilly and a bit too cloudy for this sunbaby’s liking, so the fact that one can drive 25 minutes and be tomando las rayas del sol is perfection. I took in those rays like there was no tomorrow . . . but then I came back again the next day and fully plan to again and again. Claaaaro que sí. Of course.

Last week, I attended a BareMinerals event all about moxie – a concept I love. They sent me home with some beautiful lip glosses, and this “Smooth Talker” is the perfectly pastel pink for a punchy, confident little beauty boost. Its slightly minty-fresh tingle and sheer, no-nonsense hue had my moxie at full force all day long. Perfect for the #getitgirl!

Big Hearts Forever

Sarah's Ambitions - Big Hearts ForeverSarah's Ambitions - Big Hearts ForeverSarah's Ambitions - Big Hearts Forever

Dress: Theory via Nordstrom Rack. Faux leather moto: Target. Handbag: Michael Kors Astrid Satchel. Kitten Heels: Tahari via DSW. Perfume necklace: H&M. Men’s watch: Invicta. LOVE ring stack and gem bracelet: Forever21.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone had a day filled with love and celebration of the most powerful thing on Earth. There are people who scoff at the holiday and say it’s fabricated, but really, what in life isn’t? We add “artificial” importance to every day: the Earth orbits and spins whether or not you follow tradition A or B, and whether you wore your PJs all day or donned something that makes you feel oh-so-fabulous. Why not celebrate love every day? It doesn’t matter if you’re attached or not.

“I have an everyday religion that works for me. Love yourself first, and everything else falls into line.” – Lucille Ball

If you didn’t treat yourself yesterday, do it today. And tomorrow. And the day after that!

People with big hearts always win in the long run. So let’s all open ours and make the most of this wild ride around the sun. Let other people in. Let people out when they hurt you. I’ve recently had to do that a few times, and while it aches at first, everything gets better with time (especially wine).

Except cellulite. That stuff finds you out of nowhere, and I am here to tell you that more people need to let a girl know that it happens to almost everyone, no matter size. And yep, you’re still beautiful.

Dolman and a Fur Skirt

Sarah's Ambitions - Dolman and a Fur Skirt

Sweater: Gap. Skirt: H&M. Handbag: Michael Kors. Sunglasses: Target. Flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom. Dog tags: Express. Bracelet: Forever21. Watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that big things have been happening in my life. Rather, I have earned some big changes for myself. I just went AWOL from the grind and am starting my own company, and I am effervescent with excitement, pride and ambition. It’s definitely more than the fact that I haven’t been tan in two years, I swear.

I wore this outfit for a day at my home office, then out to a cozy dinner with le hubs. This Gap sweater has been in high rotation ever since I bought it, with its perfectly boyfriendy-but-chic shape.

Another big announcement: I finally made the leap to the beautiful world of DSLR photography and I’m not going back. I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it.

Cheers to all my #getitgirl friends out there. Bravo.

Sarah's Ambitions - In the Navy

Navy shirt: Express (old). Navy pants: BCBGeneration. Bag: Hamilton by Michael Kors. Glitter heels: Target. Faux leather moto: Target. Round sunglasses: Target. Wishbone necklace: c/o Rocksbox. Gem bracelet: Forever21. Men’s watch: Invicta. Floral bracelet: my wedding jewelry.

2013 is proving to be the year of the #getitgirl. All of the hard work I put in over the last few years has helped me get to where I am today, and I must admit, I’m pretty proud.

The wishbone necklace I’m wearing was a gift from Rocksbox, a really neat jewelry subscription service that lets you rock designer pieces for $19 a month, shipped right to your door. This piece has become a favorite of mine – a wishbone is symbolic of luck, but the right amount of graceful effort is what gets the prize. True #getitgirl material.

Monochrome has been my favorite trend of late, from this all-navy outfit to my last all-white ensemble to my go-to black attire. What about you? I can’t wait to share all my adventures in style over the next year.

White Monochrome

Ivory angora sweater: Ann Taylor. Sheer white blouse: Bellatrix via Nordstrom Rack. White skinny jeans: Gap. Ivory pea coat: Express, old. Bordeaux handbag: Michael Kors Astrid satchel. Burgundy snakeprint pumps: Target. Round sunglasses: Target. Baubled necklace: White House Black Market. Gold and rhinestone necklace: Forever21. Tiered gold and rope necklace: Target. Pavé pendant: Target. Men’s watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs. Gold cuff: Forever21. Gold and rhinestone bracelet: Forever21.

I did a major closet inventory over the holiday and set aside the clothes I never wear. That left me with a very minimal wardrobe – which is 50% black, 25% white and much of the rest are pieces I’m not too wild about, feeble attempts at adding color. You could say I have pigeonholed my style, but I prefer the term ‘Parisian chic.’ While I do want to invest in more fun pieces (Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific always inspires me), right now, being able to mix and match everything is practically perfect in every way. I can Mary Poppins together a polished outfit in ten seconds flat, and the remix capabilities are endless. Now I just need her never-ending bag of amazing outfits and décor.

This outfit was my solution for a day that started with pouring rain. The monochrome look is so fun, and I wanted to flip it from my typical all-black ensemble to something a little more holiday-inspired and trendy. It also made my shoes and handbag really pop – a guy walking by even complimented them!

How will you rock the monochrome trend? Maybe next time I’ll go all out and do neon pink.

P.S. I tried a new setting with my digital camera instead of using my iPhone after reading this Blog Trends article on non-DSLR photography, and I love how the photos turned out a little bit Michael-Kors-editorial-meets-Juergen-Teller-lighting. I’m still experimenting with my photography – share your tips below, too!

Mini A-Go-Go

Feathered mini skirt: H&M. Black v-neck tee: Target. Faux leather moto: Target. Tan handbag: Michael Kors Hamilton Tote. Black pointed flats with a bow: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom. Black-and-white bauble necklace in gold: White House Black Market. Pavé pendant necklace: Target. Perfume pendant necklace: H&M. Men’s watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs. Jewel bracelet: Forever21. Gold strand bracelet: Forever21. Round sunglasses: Target.

Despite the à gogo length of leg happening over here, this is one of my favorite ensembles to run around and get things done. The fluffy mini is extremely comfortable (even when we did this shoot on the chilly, chilly beach) and stacks of jewelry make everything better. Write that truth down.

Le hubs and I have come to a crossroads in our life, and as usual, we are taking the road less traveled by. It is making all the difference, and I am loving it. We are so a-go-go every day and I wouldn’t have it any other way, except on the days that I just need a nap. But there’s no time for a nap right now, I’m à gogo on my go-go.

Easy Chic

Faux fur: H&M. Aviators: 1903s c/o Ellison Sunglass Co. Black jacket: Springfield (purchased in Spain, Spring 2009). Sheer black button-up: Pleione via Nordstrom Rack. Camisole: Banana Republic. Bootcut denim: Gap Long & Lean. Bordeaux handbag: Astrid Satchel by Michael Kors. Black pumps: Steve Madden. Men’s watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs.

This outfit was very quick to assemble and get out the door. We had places to be and people to see without time to get ready — which is why I love stocking up on go-to pieces like these that don’t require much strategizing in case of emergency.

P.S. A smile is always in season and is the easiest accessory ;)

Feeling Good

Aviator sunglasses: 1903s in black c/o Ellison Sunglass Co. // Angora sweater: Ann Taylor // Faux leather skater skirt: H&M // Faux fur vest: Rachel Zoe (last season, similar from this season here) // Black opaque tights: L’eggs via Walgreen’s (similar from ASOS here) // Black bow flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom (sold out, similar here) // Bordeaux handbag: Michael Kors Astrid satchel // Gold tiered necklace: Target // Men’s watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs

When I discovered Ellison Sunglass Co. through The Facets Magazine, I was really moved. Not only do they have beautiful design, with every purchase of a pair of Ellison sunglasses, they cover the cost of a corrective eye surgery for someone in need. Their motto, “Look Good. Do Good.” is exactly what I love to see in fashion. Brands that find a way to give back top my list, and I couldn’t be more proud of my Ellison 1903s! Le hubs also loves them and has already borrowed them a few times. Nothing like a pair of his-and-hers sunglasses to make a relationship solid!

This #getitgirl is also feeling good about life. On a sartorial note, I have been slowly adding some spice to my wardrobe of basics, and I am loving the way my style is growing. This applies to life, too: as I grow wiser and more seasoned, that makes the sweetness that much better.

Fall 2012 Trend Seeker: Oxblood

1) Sonia Kashuk nail polish in ‘Stop Whining’ // 2) Prada sunglasses in bordeaux // 3) Michael Kors Astrid Satchel from my recent outfit post // 4) Forever21 faux fur collar // 5) Schutz ‘Frost’ booties via Piperlime

Autumn is a season of change. In my home state, temperatures drop and daylight grows scarce enough to encourage deciduous trees to explode in a burgundy and sienna symphony. In San Francisco, we get rain, some vibrant sunsets and full poetic fashion license to express ourselves with the hottest trends and a heavy dose of individuality.

This fall, oxblood is huge, and so on point. Call it wine, burgundy, bordeaux — I’ve even heard rouge — whatever the name, this deep, dark rose color still is as sweet. The rich, enveloping undertone sets the stage for a warmly accessorized season. Try these fun pieces to add a little pop to your staples. I paired it with black and white, my go-to outfit, but some mixed prints of the same burgundy color family would make a great weekend ensemble for the bold fashionista.

No matter how you say it or style it, this color is sure to be a superb sartorial addition this season. Stock up on accessories and you can’t go wrong. They’ll pair and mix with ease!
