Last week, I decided to shop at H&M instead of taking a lunch. I picked an excellent day: sale! Can you believe I scored this sweater for $12.95? It has become an instant favorite. I found a number of other staple pieces, and all together, everything cost less than one ill-fitting shirt I had just returned. Major win.
Shop this outfit:
Black turtleneck sweater: H&M // Faux leather mini: H&M (in-store, similar in leather) // Off-white pea coat: Express, old (similar from Banana Republic) // Tote: Coach // Ballet flats: Sole Society // Sunglasses: Dior // Stud earrings: Target // Pavé link bracelet: BaubleBar // Black gem bracelet: Target // Men’s watch: Invicta
Speaking of purchasing power: Better World Shopper is a neat iPhone app and book I discovered in college thanks to a great professor. I have starting using the app again to assess my purchases and the impact they have on the world around me. Stores and brands are graded on a letter scale, and I have set my limit for new purchases at a “C.” H&M clothing gets a “B-,” so I feel alright about continuing to shop there. By comparison, for example, Target clothing gets a “D” and Macy’s gets an “F.”
The list isn’t exhaustive, but it’s a great start. Being conscientious of the impact we have on the world around us is incredibly important, and I want to do my part.
