Pink tank:Zara // White blazer: H&M // Black faux leather shorts:Zara (I seriously own two identical pairs; total must-have staple piece!) // Handbag:Michael Kors Hamilton // Bow flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom // Ring necklace: H&M // Pyramid ring: Forever21 // Mirrored rose sunglasses: H&M // Pink lipgloss:“Smooth Talker” c/o BareMinerals
I wore this outfit for a day of working at a local café, where I got some real sunshine for the first time in a long time. It was deliciously warm and entirely addictive. The weather in San Francisco (and the neighboring city where I live, one step farther down the coast) is often a bit too chilly and a bit too cloudy for this sunbaby’s liking, so the fact that one can drive 25 minutes and be tomando las rayas del sol is perfection. I took in those rays like there was no tomorrow . . . but then I came back again the next day and fully plan to again and again. Claaaaro que sí. Of course.
Last week, I attended a BareMinerals event all about moxie – a concept I love. They sent me home with some beautiful lip glosses, and this “Smooth Talker” is the perfectly pastel pink for a punchy, confident little beauty boost. Its slightly minty-fresh tingle and sheer, no-nonsense hue had my moxie at full force all day long. Perfect for the #getitgirl!
Lime green skirt: Diane von Furstenburg via Last Call Neiman Marcus // Black v-neck: Target (layered) // Large black scarf: Marc Jacobs for Target + Neiman Marcus // Faux leather moto: Target // Patent kitten heels: Tahari via DSW // Round sunglasses: Target // Gem bracelet: Forever21 // Men’s watch: Invicta // Pavé bracelet: Target
Another day, another outfit for busy client meetings. Let’s make it electric and make the #getitgirl motivation even easier to find.
Boogie woogie woogie.
P.S. I realized I interlace my fingers when I’m intensely checking email. I love finding little quirks!
Jumpsuit: Vince via Nordstrom Rack // White blazer: H&M // Sandal heels:Zara // Handbag: Michael Kors Astrid Satchel // Aviators: c/o Ellison Sunglass Co. // Pavé triangles necklace: H&M, part of a set // Black pavé bracelet: Target // Gemstone bracelet: Forever21 // Men’s watch: Invicta
I wore this modified suit for a day of client meetings and delivering completed projects. There is nothing quite as fulfilling as creating something unique that gets the people going. When I think back on the career I’d set my sights on through college – saving America’s health care – I am so grateful that I changed course, even though it meant building something from nothing and some restless nights. Now, I get to explore creative options and create exciting projects, and I love it. Having my blog on the side to feed my passions, too, is amazing. #ilovetheinternet
Making a new boardroom for myself is so exciting. And speaking of new things, these strappy Zara heels were my first shoe purchase from them and I am in love. Can’t wait to rock them every day when it warms up more.
Faux leather shorts: Zara. Black scarf: Marc Jacobs for NM + Target. Sweatshirt jacket: Macy’s (old). Burgundy faux snakeskin pumps: Target. Handbag: Michael Kors Astrid Satchel. Gold bracelet, gem bracelet and LOVE rings: Forever21. Aviator sunglasses: Ellison Sunglass Co (c/o).
These shorts were a find months in the making. I had been dreaming about a pair of faux leather shorts ever since I spied a Vince look book ages ago, with a gorgeous pair my heart said I had to have, to which my bank account promptly replied with a no. I was looking for an affordable pair with enough inseam to be appropriate for everyday wear, when I finally stumbled across these beauties. A few quick clicks later and I was eagerly awaiting my first online Zara purchase’s arrival!
Online shopping is definitely growing on me now that I work from home. Efficient and Christmas-like? If only every decision was so easy! And if only I could justify doing this every week. #collegedebtcomesfirst
The response to my post about body image and blogging last week was fabulous. Especially on social media, people of all ages poured over with support, appreciation and reflection. I know I’m not alone in the fight against the mirror, so I am very glad to have shared this and hope it can inspire more people to love themselves even just a bit more.
Striped top with sequins: Target. Faux ostrich skirt: H&M. Glasses: Zagg frames c/o Warby Parker contest. Rope and gold necklace: Target. Men’s watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs. Gem bracelet: Forever21 (similar).
I love wearing pieces that are more comfortable than they seem. This outfit is full of sneakily snuggly sparkles, which this Monday definitely needed. I’m so glad that I won these Warby Parker Zagg glasses over the holidays thanks to a Twitter contest – they give my eyes a much-needed break from contacts and I love the shape and their social responsibility factor.
Our internet went out over the weekend, and I didn’t mind terribly much because I was having a great time weekend-ing with some lovely people. We tried all the troubleshooting tricks for two days to cure those misbehaving signal ourselves, but ended up with an 8 AM Monday morning time window for Comcast. There are few things I want to do at 8 AM anymore, let alone cross my fingers that someone comes to bring the world back into my apartment. So, do you know the cure for the Monday morning blues? The Monday navy-blues-with-sequins-sparkle-stripes-and-a-favorite-fuzzy-skirts. It’s the truth, mate. Ahoy, into the week!
I just love the internet. Hit me full force and let me sail off into your dreamy sea full of possibility. (We’re back in business, baby.)
When I saw this jumpsuit at Nordstrom Rack, I thought there was no way it would fit. I’m 5’11″ with a 37″ inseam and a tiny torso, so nothing pre-fab fits my whole body – except this. And it was on major sale, as in I would have paid the original $295 but instead I only paid $59. Like, come on, is this real life? Jumping for joy.
I’m really liking setting my own rules for office suit attire. My boss says a jumpsuit is entirely acceptable in my home office (#selfemployedbenefits). I also actually wore this to a client meeting, and while running other business errands. Managing my own business is challenging, but I know that it will pay off in the long run and I am loving creating my own future. The biggest thing is finding your groove, then digging in and pushing forward.
This simple and sparkly ensemble was just what a long day at my little home office needed – two comfy but chic favorites remixed for sassy-and-sweet work day attire.
Le hubs snapped these photos as I snuck a little break perusing Net-a-Porter, adding to my growing wish list and perusing their uber-cool online magazine.
My guilty pleasure is Instagram. I love scrolling through every few hours and catching up on fellow fashionistas around the world. Someday, I’d love to cruise through Chanel as often as Miroslava Duma, or have a wardrobe as enviable as Blair Eadie’s. Today, though, seeing a manicure done by local nail legends Pams & Kin inspired me to remedy my growing-out gel manicure as a quick afternoon break with some clear polish and a hefty dose of craft glitter. Do you like the glitzy results? I’m smitten! It only took about ten minutes to do all of my nails.
Here’s to sneaking the occasional break. My dad used to read me The King’s Stilts by Dr. Seuss when I was a kid:
“And when they played they really played. And when they worked they really worked.”
Growing your own business is tough, guys! It’s the most liberating thing I have ever done, but also the most demanding. Despite late nights and lost sleep, I am still really proud. (Read: thank goodness for MAC concealer and Caribou K-Cups.)
We snapped these one morning before I ran to a client meeting. Le hubs is getting better and better with photos – major props, boo. This blushing pink skirt was purchased entirely for its shape, and I wasn’t sure how I’d make this color work with my fair complexion. Clearly, I went with what I love best!
This year has been off to a fabulous start. What is your favorite thing of 2013 so far? Mine is starting my own business and all of the pros and cons that have ensued. A learning curve has always been my forte, and this metamorphosis has certainly proven to be all I had hoped and more.
Sweater: Gap. Skirt: H&M. Handbag: Michael Kors. Sunglasses: Target. Flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom. Dog tags: Express. Bracelet: Forever21. Watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs.
If you follow me on Twitter, you know that big things have been happening in my life. Rather, I have earned some big changes for myself. I just went AWOL from the grind and am starting my own company, and I am effervescent with excitement, pride and ambition. It’s definitely more than the fact that I haven’t been tan in two years, I swear.
I wore this outfit for a day at my home office, then out to a cozy dinner with le hubs. This Gap sweater has been in high rotation ever since I bought it, with its perfectly boyfriendy-but-chic shape.
Another big announcement: I finally made the leap to the beautiful world of DSLR photography and I’m not going back. I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it.
Cheers to all my #getitgirl friends out there. Bravo.
Navy shirt: Express (old). Navy pants: BCBGeneration. Bag: Hamilton by Michael Kors. Glitter heels: Target. Faux leather moto: Target. Round sunglasses: Target. Wishbone necklace: c/o Rocksbox. Gem bracelet: Forever21. Men’s watch: Invicta. Floral bracelet: my wedding jewelry.
2013 is proving to be the year of the #getitgirl. All of the hard work I put in over the last few years has helped me get to where I am today, and I must admit, I’m pretty proud.
The wishbone necklace I’m wearing was a gift from Rocksbox, a really neat jewelry subscription service that lets you rock designer pieces for $19 a month, shipped right to your door. This piece has become a favorite of mine – a wishbone is symbolic of luck, but the right amount of graceful effort is what gets the prize. True #getitgirl material.
Monochrome has been my favorite trend of late, from this all-navy outfit to my last all-white ensemble to my go-to black attire. What about you? I can’t wait to share all my adventures in style over the next year.
