Sparkle + Stripes

Sarah's Ambitions - Sparkle + StripesSarah's Ambitions - Sparkle + StripesSarah's Ambitions - Sparkle + Stripes

Striped top with sequins: Target. Faux ostrich skirt: H&M. Glasses: Zagg frames c/o Warby Parker contest. Rope and gold necklace: Target. Men’s watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs. Gem bracelet: Forever21 (similar).

I love wearing pieces that are more comfortable than they seem. This outfit is full of sneakily snuggly sparkles, which this Monday definitely needed. I’m so glad that I won these Warby Parker Zagg glasses over the holidays thanks to a Twitter contest – they give my eyes a much-needed break from contacts and I love the shape and their social responsibility factor.

Our internet went out over the weekend, and I didn’t mind terribly much because I was having a great time weekend-ing with some lovely people. We tried all the troubleshooting tricks for two days to cure those misbehaving signal ourselves, but ended up with an 8 AM Monday morning time window for Comcast. There are few things I want to do at 8 AM anymore, let alone cross my fingers that someone comes to bring the world back into my apartment. So, do you know the cure for the Monday morning blues? The Monday navy-blues-with-sequins-sparkle-stripes-and-a-favorite-fuzzy-skirts. It’s the truth, mate. Ahoy, into the week!

I just love the internet. Hit me full force and let me sail off into your dreamy sea full of possibility. (We’re back in business, baby.)

Blushing Pink

Skirt: BCBG Max Azria (similar). Turtleneck: Target. Jacket: Target (new version). Bag: Michael Kors Hamilton. Ballet flats: Sam Edelman via Nordstrom. Sunglasses: Target. Pavé necklace: Target. Pendant: H&M. Watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs. Bracelet: Forever21. Heart ring: Forever21. Stud earrings: Target.

Growing your own business is tough, guys! It’s the most liberating thing I have ever done, but also the most demanding. Despite late nights and lost sleep, I am still really proud. (Read: thank goodness for MAC concealer and Caribou K-Cups.)

We snapped these one morning before I ran to a client meeting. Le hubs is getting better and better with photos – major props, boo. This blushing pink skirt was purchased entirely for its shape, and I wasn’t sure how I’d make this color work with my fair complexion. Clearly, I went with what I love best!

This year has been off to a fabulous start. What is your favorite thing of 2013 so far? Mine is starting my own business and all of the pros and cons that have ensued. A learning curve has always been my forte, and this metamorphosis has certainly proven to be all I had hoped and more.

Sweater: Gap. Skirt: H&M. Handbag: Michael Kors. Sunglasses: Target. Flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom. Dog tags: Express. Bracelet: Forever21. Watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that big things have been happening in my life. Rather, I have earned some big changes for myself. I just went AWOL from the grind and am starting my own company, and I am effervescent with excitement, pride and ambition. It’s definitely more than the fact that I haven’t been tan in two years, I swear.

I wore this outfit for a day at my home office, then out to a cozy dinner with le hubs. This Gap sweater has been in high rotation ever since I bought it, with its perfectly boyfriendy-but-chic shape.

Another big announcement: I finally made the leap to the beautiful world of DSLR photography and I’m not going back. I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it.

Cheers to all my #getitgirl friends out there. Bravo.

Navy shirt: Express (old). Navy pants: BCBGeneration. Bag: Hamilton by Michael Kors. Glitter heels: Target. Faux leather moto: Target. Round sunglasses: Target. Wishbone necklace: c/o Rocksbox. Gem bracelet: Forever21. Men’s watch: Invicta. Floral bracelet: my wedding jewelry.

2013 is proving to be the year of the #getitgirl. All of the hard work I put in over the last few years has helped me get to where I am today, and I must admit, I’m pretty proud.

The wishbone necklace I’m wearing was a gift from Rocksbox, a really neat jewelry subscription service that lets you rock designer pieces for $19 a month, shipped right to your door. This piece has become a favorite of mine – a wishbone is symbolic of luck, but the right amount of graceful effort is what gets the prize. True #getitgirl material.

Monochrome has been my favorite trend of late, from this all-navy outfit to my last all-white ensemble to my go-to black attire. What about you? I can’t wait to share all my adventures in style over the next year.

Maxed Out Chic

White fisherman sweater: Gilly Hicks // Black pleated maxi skirt: Laundry by Shelli Segal via TJMaxx (similar here by THEORY) // Faux leather moto: Target (last year, similar from this season here)// Pointed black pumps: Nine West via Nordstrom // Burgundy handbag: Michael Kors Astrid Satchel // Black and gold necklace: Forever21 // Gold dog tags: Express // Tiered gold necklace: Target

This maxi skirt was a staple for me over the summer, and now that cooler weather has hit, I wanted to find ways to wear it year-round. I bought this Gilly Hicks sweater while back home in Minnesota last month (Mall of America, I miss you so) and I am kind of obsessed with layering it over all my staple pieces now. Maxing out all of my chic options is a good thing in my book!

As I mentioned yesterday, I love using fashion to bolster my inner #getitgirl and stay motivated, no matter how maxed out I may be in the rest of my life. The inspiration is never-ending when you remix your favorite pieces. Chin up, heels on, layered necklaces, done. Bazinga!

Oxblood and a Feathered Mini

Oxblood handbag: Michael Kors Astrid Satchel // Faux feather mini skirt: H&M collection for Lana Del Ray // Black sheer button-up: Pleione via Nordstrom Rack (similar here from Urban Outfitters) // Black cami: Banana Republic // Faux leather moto: Target  (last year, new version here)

Round sunglasses: Target // Tiered neckace: Target // Watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs // Bordeaux suede flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom

This outfit was all about making a statement — comfortably. Upon seeing this skirt in a press release about the Lana Del Rey Fall 2012 collection for H&M, I knew it absolutely had to be mine. I had been coveting a similar style from Kate Spade after seeing it on Blair of Atlantic-Pacific, and for $30, you know I bought this as soon as it arrived in stores! (If you go for it, too, I sized up for added length and am taking in the waist.) Paired with a POC from my go-to flats, a favorite, easy shirt and some classic accessories, I felt pretty faboosh.

The thing is, I want my clothes to look good and feel good. This outfit was simple enough to last a 12-hour day full of writing, editing, managing accounts and traipsing about on site without any issues, but I still showcased my inner fashion girl. I like to refer to this kind of outfit as a #fashiongirlsolution. On trend, on budget, on point for work.

How do you keep up your fashion game at the office? Tweet me and let me know! Let’s spread the style inspiration. I’ll share my favorites on Facebook and Pinterest!

Here’s to a great Monday, fellow fashionistas. Go get it, girls!

New England Charm

Faux fur vest: Rachel Zoe via Shopbop (last year) // Boyfriend shirt: Gap // Skinny jeans: Paige Denim via Nordstrom Rack // Bow flats: Ivanka Trump via Nordstrom (similar here) // Tiered necklace: Target // Round sunglasses: Target (similar here) // Watch: Invicta, borrowed from le hubs // Nail polish: Sonia Kashuk in Golden Ticket

Architecture is much like fashion, with different styles, nuances and personal flair. On this overcast day, le hubs and I snuck in a trip to Starbucks to add a little charm to the morning. While we weren’t in New England, the building that served as this photo shoot’s backdrop paid no mind.

This morning, my husband actually embarked for our home state, where I followed a while later after wrapping up some large projects at work. My style stuck out there, but I, too, paid no mind. I was true to my own style and carried on.

However, unlike this beautifully wind-worn backdrop, my style inspiration is a fluid, ever-developing entity. I love looking back through photos and seeing how my personal style has evolved — and recognizing that I have never felt more myself than I do now. And that leaves me feeling charmed.

What keeps you charmed and new? Do it today.

Black on Black

Faux leather panel pencil skirt: Forever21 // Gold-trim button-up: Forever21 // Pointed pumps: Nine West // Black moto: Target // Round sunglasses: Target // Perfume necklace: H&M // Men’s watch: Invicta

I kind of love these photos, because you can’t even see the textures of the outfit with the magical backlight of the perfectly pastel Pacifica sunset. My favorite way to do a single-tone outfit is to incorporate multiple fabrics and finishes, and this faux-leather panel pencil skirt from Forever21 is one of my favorite recent finds, considering my affinity for donning black. The gold collar detail on the sheer black blouse adds a regal flash of sass to a boardroom-ready ensemble. Paired with my favorite pumps, this outfit took me through multiple meetings and a few intense deadlines with nary a flaw to be seen.

The beauty of a black on black look is that you’re virtually guaranteed to present a polished front. The fact that I’ve seen some tweets calling this a fall trend makes it even better. Parisian chic, order for an entire season. Check, please!
